The first identified ancestor of this line is Christopher Knisell. He also went by the name "Stoffel" and "Christian." It is uncertain when he arrived, but he had arrived by 1792 from Germany.
He married Elizabeth "Betsy" Horner on 22 Jan 1794 in Swedesboro, Gloucester County, NJ. They had 8 children; 5 boys and 3 girls.
In 1809 he built a a grist mill in Mullica Hill, replacing a mid-18th century structure. After his death, Elizabeth sold the "Grist and filling mill, carting, spinning, and other machineries" in 1826 to Joseph Doran of Burlington County.
He was first buried in Mullica Hill; his remains were removed to Swedesboro after Elizabeth's death.
